This is one of the most famous (and one of the funniest) Henri Salvador songs. It is about the famous hero, whose adventures could often be seen on French TV at the time (it still airs on TV sometimes today). There were also very few different channels on French TV at the time, so everything that happened on the screen had way more impact.
As you will see on this video, Henri Salvador often played in videos of his songs, which was quite rare at the time. It can be explained, of course, by his talent of actor, that brings something more to the song. I put the lyrics first because it’s more funny if you understand a bit what’s going on 😉
[More about Henri Salvador]
- Disant “Donne-moi ton ranch, eh boudin !
[Refrain]
- Avec son flingue et son grand lasso
- Avec ses bottes et son vieux poncho
- Ha ha, sacré Zorro va, ha ha ha ha
- On my couch I was watching the movie on TV
- A dude named Puffy Joe was chasing poor Suzy
- He stuck her near the sawmill and told her very nastily :
- “If you don’t give me your ranch right away, I’m gonna cut you in half”
- And he grabbed her (-And then ?…)
- Well, he tied her up (-And then ?…)
- He put her under the saw (-And then ? And then ?…)
[Chorus :]
- And, and
- Zorro has come
- With no hurry
- The great Zorro
- (The handsome Zorro)
- With his horse and his great hat
- But soon I switched to the second channel because an old fuck was talking
- Charming evening, on the second channel they were showing the same lame movie
- Near a hut Puffy Joe was sticking poor Suzy
- And he was saying : “Gimme your ranch, you doll, or I turn you into mash potatoes !”
- And he grabbed her (-And then ?…)
- Well, he tied her up (-And then ?…)
- He set fire to the dynamite (-And then ? And then ?…)
[Chorus]
- But me I was so fed up with it, I switched to the first channel again
- And in front of my eyes, my ghastly eyes, the same scene was taking place
- And Joe, Puffy Joe was shovinf poor Suzy in a bag
- Saying “Gimme your ranch, you sausage ! Or I’m gonna throw you under the train !”
- And he grabbed her (-And then ?…)
- And he tied her up (And then ?…)
- On the rails, he made her roll (-And then ?…)
- Well the train was coming, folks ! (-And then ? And then ?…)
[Chorus]
- With his gun and his great lasso
- With his boots and his old poncho
- Ah ah, good ol’ Zorro, ah ah ah ah
