Serge Gainsbourg – Initials B.B.

One of the most iconic Serge Gainsbourg songs, about one of the most iconic French actresses of all time. Brigitte Bardot, in the late 50’s and in the 60’s, was a real icon and sex symbol in France. She and Gainsbourg had a short affair together in 1967. It’s at the end of this relationship that Gainsbourg wrote this song about her and their story. Brigitte Bardot collaborated in two songs on this album : this one and “Bonnie and Clyde”. The music of the chorus is inspired by a classical piece, “Sympony no. 9” (from the New World) by Anton Dvořák.

Notes :

  1. L’Amour monstre is a novel by Louis Pauwels (1954). Brigitte Bardot advised this book to Gainsbourg, because it’s a cruel book and she thought he was gonna like it.
  2. Almeria is the city where their love story ended.
