Okay, so here is THE classic of the classics. Isn’t it like the most covered French song of all times ? Or at least very close to it. I chose to put several great covers as well, after the translation of the song.
It’s Edith Piaf who wrote the lyrics in 1945, and the music was written by Louiguy. In the beggining she offered this song, several people didn’t believe in it because they thought it was too simpleton and weak compared to the rest of her repertoire ! As a matter of fact it became her most famous song.
The title is an expression that globally means “life through happy lenses”. To see “la vie en rose” means a positive approach of life.
[More about Edith Piaf]
- Eyes that make mine look down
- A laugh that gets lost on his mouth
- Here’s the portrait without touch-up
- Of the man to which I belong
- When he takes me into his arms
- And he speaks to me softly
- I see life in pink
- He tells me words of love
- Everyday words
- And it makes me something
- In my heart has entered
- A part of happiness
- Whose cause I know
- It’s him for me, me for him in life
- He told me that, swore that, for life
- And as soon as I sight him
- Then I feel inside me
- My heart that beats
- Endless nights of love
- A great happiness, that takes his place
- Trouble, sorrows fade
- Happy, happy to death
- When he takes me into his arms
- And he speaks to me softly
- I see life in pink
- He tells me words of love
- Everyday words
- And it makes me something
- In my heart has entered
- A part of happiness
- Whose cause I know
- It’s him for me, me for him in life
- He told me that, swore that, for life
- And as soon as I sight him
- Then I feel inside me
- My heart that beats
