Air

There was a time, in the late 90’s, where the “French touch” was quite huge, and Air are a big part in this movement, even though not many may remember them today, which is very sad if you want my opinion ! If it’s the case for you, let’s correct this mistake right now.

Air were formed in 1995. Like Daft Punk [who clearly became more famous than them but at the time they were challenging each other (according to my dad)], it is a duo, formed by Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin. They became famous with their first album Moon Safari in 1998. They are also famous for having made the music for two famous movies by Sofia Coppola, The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation. Their music is not only very atmospheric but also very deep and marked by various influences. A band like Air is part of what makes 90’s music so special to me.

Given that when they have lyrics, most of the time it’s in English, I don’t need to work too much 😉 Don’t hesitate to go see other things by them.

Their earliest work (before their first album) :

Le Soleil est Près de Moi (= The Sun is Near Me) :

From Moon Safari :

La Femme d’Argent (= The Silver Woman). The opening track of the album, and one of their best tracks to me. Listen to that bass, and how the music developes and explorates this pattern, it’s fantastic :

Sexy Boy :

All I Need :

Kelly Watch The Stars :

From The Virgin Suicides :

Playground Love :

From Lost In Translation :

Alone in Kyoto :

From further records :

Another Day :

Venus :
