Christophe

Christophe was (if I have not forgotten anybody) the first big musical loss in this new decade in France. Born in 1945, he died in April 2020 from a long pulmonary disease, worsened by severe symptoms of Covid-19.

He began his career in the 1960’s, becoming a part of the “yéyé” movement, even though, right from the beginning, he seemed more melancholic and “musical” than most of his peers. And indeed he mostly wrote his own songs and lyrics. His first big success was “Aline” in 1965. Then he made several famous songs including in the 70’s and 80’s. His voice and instrumentations were very recognizable, and he had a reputation of “latin lover”.
