Dalida (1933-1987), born in Egypt, began to be a mannequin (she won the Miss Egypt beauty contest in 1954), but then she moved to France and began her musical career in the late 50’s. Throughout her career, she sung not only in French, but also in German, Flemish, Italian, Arab… And she explorated various musical genres. Because of her accent, of her popularity during her lifetime and also of her death by suicide, she remained sort of an incarnation of the “diva” in France.
