Born in 1944, Françoise Hardy is undoubtedly one of the most successful French singers. Like France Gall, her career can be separated in two different eras : the “yé-yé” era, where she was a pop star with quite catchy songs, produced by the successful label Disques Vogue, and her career after the 60’s, where she made a more mature contemplative work. In her long career, she collaborated with a lot of people. She’s still married with the singer Jacques Dutronc, with whom she began a love story in the late 60’s : which makes it, to my knowledge, a unique example of lasting relationship in the French music world. They had a son together, Thomas Dutronc, who is also a singer. If I had to choose one word to describe her work, it would be “melancholy”.
