Joe Dassin

Joe Dassin (1938-1980) was born in New york from two American parents (his father, Jules Dassin, was a quite famous director), who had to leave the US in 1950 because of maccartysm. After having moved to several European countries (and back to the US for the end of his studies), he finally settled in France with his family. He became a successful singer in the late 1960’s, and his success continued in the 1970’s. His famous song “Champs Elysées” gave an idyllic image of the “French way of life”. He also covered some of his songs in other languages (such as German !). He suddendly died of a heart attack in 1980.
