Johnny Halliday

Born Jean-Philippe Smet in 1943, the “French Elvis” is one of the most successful and well-known French singers. “Johnny” found a way to remain popular at every era of French music since the early 60’s. He began with rock music (that he never really abandonned) in the 60’s, during the “yé-yé” era, where he was probably the biggest male idol. Then his career, that spanned 6 decades, never really ceased to be successful. He was so idolized by a part of French public that when he died, in 2017, he was given national funerals, like the biggest heroes and the most popular political figures : for many French people (especially people of his generation, but even a part of the younger audience) he was a national figure.
