Born in 1944 in Bulgaria, Sylvie Vartan emigrates in France with her family at 8 years old to escape life in communist countries. She began a career in music and becameone of the most famous “idols” of the “yé-yé” era. She also married Johnny Halliday (a huge idol in France still to this day), and their couple, that lasted around 15 years, is one of the most emblematic of French music. But even though her most famous songs are quite happy and catchy, some of her songs have a more melancholy tone, dealing with nostalgia and uprooting.
