In French slang, many two-syllabs words have their syllabs inverted, an this is how Stromae chose his name (by inverting “Maestro”). This Belgian artist is one of the most famous French-speaking musicians of this generation, and pretty much the only French 2010’s artist that makes the unanimity, whatever music genre you prefer. His biggest hit “Papoutai” became a success in several other countries. Stromae is sometimes seen as a modern incarnation of Jacques Brel (who was fron Belgium too), because of the way he sings and because of his talent in lyrics. He also composes and produces his songs I think, so it gives a very caracteristic But he has quite left the scene for the last few years because of an illness.

Note : some of his songs have a translation in English on his Toutube channel, but I think they’re of quite bad quality, and they don’t give justice to the many layers of meaning in his lyrics. So if I have time, I’ll translate it by myself and give the explanations that I think are needed. But before tht happens, better have a bad translation than no translation at all 😉
